Long (2 paragraphs)
Steve Carse is the co-founder of King of Pops, one of Atlanta’s best-loved brands, and the author of Work Is Fun (Matt Holt Books, 2025). Named one of the AJC’s Most Admired CEOs in 2017 and Georgia Trend’s 40 Under 40 in 2012, Steve got laid off in the Great Recession; his brother Nick didn’t, but came along anyway. In 2010 they started King of Pops together. The idea Steve had been kicking around with his brothers Nick and Ashley for years, born on trips through Central America. Today, sixteen years later, King of Pops is the largest cart-based business in the U.S. and a roughly $10M company that sells not just ice pops but cocktails, Christmas trees, farm produce, and a franchise program called Cartrepreneur®. Steve calls the whole collection the Rainbow Umbrella.
In his first book, Work Is Fun, Steve lays out seven ideas behind how he and the team at King of Pops have made the work worth doing, without taking themselves too seriously. He has given keynotes at Cox Enterprises, LexisNexis, Basecamp, ZingTrain, Watson Institute, CreativeMornings, Startup Mountain Summit, FEEcon, World 50, and dozens of other stages. He lives in Atlanta with his family.
